As most will know I am proud to be a Sage Pro. Sage have
released yet another new model, the Sage Igniter. It seems the rod will be
released in 4 to 10 wt models in both saltwater and freshwater. An ultra fast
model it seems, tuned to handle the most technical of conditions.

I recently received my copy (together with four more copies ordered for casting associates) of Jason Borger’s updated casting book – Single-Handed Fly Casting – A Modular Approach. Although Jason claims that “it doesn’t cover everything about single-handed fly casting” it is difficult to find anything that he has missed. I cannot fault the book – a recommendation for any serious flyfisherman. You can order a signed copy from Jason on his web site.

A new Sage Model, the Sage Salt HD (not to be confused with
the “old” Sage Salt). The rod comes in weight 6 to a real heavyweight – a 16
wt. The range covers many differing fishing situations from skinny water to heavy
blue water applications. I have already ordered the 9 wt and 11 wt models , the
9 to be matched with (amongst other lines) a Rio Flats Pro line, a new direct
core line released by Rio. This line has been released as a floating line but
also has an option for a floating line with a “stealth tip”, a 6 ft clear
intermediate tip.

Sage have released a new model fly rod – the Sage X. In both
salt (5 – 11 wt) and freshwater (3 – 11 wt) versions it is a fast action rod
enabling you to “dig deeper into the rod and access the lower sections, shifting
power closer to the angler.” This rod should be well worth trying. My first
models (a 7 and an 8 wt) are on order already.
